It’s five years since we lost our wonderful friend and colleague Gary B. Wilson. He would be so pleased to know that his work continues to help countless people year on year across the world learning from his insightful and highly accessible work.

His website

For instance his resourceful website, yourbrainonporn.com, available in 100 different languages, receives 10 million visitors a year. Although Gary wrote in English, English language readers are less than half of his online audience today.

His popular TEDx talk

The Great Porn Experiment has attained over 18 million views.

Your Brain on Porn

His best selling book Your Brain on Porn – Internet pornography and the emerging science of addiction, that updated his TEDx talk has now been published in its 18th language with more in the pipeline.

His peer-reviewed articles

Gary’s  scientific articles like Park et al (2016)  Is Internet Pornography Causing Sexual Dysfunctions? A Review with Clinical Reports (Park et al., 2016) has been cited by over 80 other peer-reviewed papers, and is the most viewed paper in the history of the journal Behavioral Sciences. Here is a short video by one of the seven US navy doctors who co-authored this paper explaining why it is so important. The video is called “You won’t believe how pornography can affect your erectile dysfunction.

There are nine citations of Gary’s other paper, Eliminate Chronic Internet Pornography Use to Reveal Its Effects. That is 1.52 more citations than average. It calls for more research to investigate what happens when men quit porn. It seems like a no-brainer of a subject, yet most researchers seem reluctant to tackle it. Let’s hope that will change in the future as the risks of problematic pornography use become more evident every day, especially for young people and those with neurodiverse conditions.

The Memorial Site

Gary’s son Arion set up a memorial site for his father in 2021. Read the thousands of notes of appreciation from people who have benefitted from his work.

Rest in Peace, Gary. Your work lives on.
