The Reward Foundation is celebrating its second birthday today. We did this in style by completing the first ever 24-hour screen fast with volunteers from S6 (final year) at George Heriot’s school in Edinburgh. See accompanying story for more details.

Here is what we have achieved in two years:

  • obtained charitable status from the Office of the Scottish Charities Regulator OSCR
  • reached in person a total audience of more than 1,500 people
  • have spoken at 7 conferences in Scotland, London, Turkey and Germany
  • delivered 8 seminars to 194 people
  • provided training to 238 professionals
  • given talks to 541 pupils in secondary schools
  • written 3 academic papers, all currently awaiting peer-review
  • co-authored a chapter in a book on sexual offending to be published in 2016
  • contributed to public consultations in the UK and Australia on the use of pornography by adolescents
  • developed a substantial website for adults and professionals working with adolescents
  • hosted 5 volunteers from George Heriot’s School and Edinburgh Napier University
  • launched a twitter feed @brain_love_sex (please join us)
  • won several awards and grant funding: social innovation incubator award – SIIA; accelerated SIAA; pitching competition; Level One award from First Port,  Grow It Award from UnLtd, and a grant from an Educational Trust in England to build a site for teenagers
  • Mary Sharpe became a member of subcommittee on prevention of sexual abuse of the National Organisation for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers
  • Mary Sharpe has been appointed to the board of the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH) in the USA
  • Lots of plans for the coming year
