Human beings are great learners. We love novelty. We’re always searching and seeking out the best, the newest, whatever puts us ahead. But we can get lost in that constant hunt. Fulfilling our potential can be a challenge.
One of the best ways to give us peace of mind and to build resilience to the stresses and strains of everyday life is deep mental relaxation. One version that is very popular today is called mindfulness meditation. It means consciously paying attention to whatever we are feeling or thinking for a short period of time in a non judgmental way. Rather than fleeing from our stressful thoughts or not making time to deal with them, we allow them to come into our mind and watch them without trying to ignore them or solve them in an effortful way.
Thoughts are not who we are; they are habits of thinking that can be changed if they are not bringing us peace and contentment. We can control them; they do not have to control us.
